Paul D. Davis, 93, Greencastle, formerly of Brazil, died March 25, 2009, at 5:50 p.m., at Hickory Creek at Sunset. Prior to that, he resided at Jackson Gardens from 1999-2007.
He was born July 27, 1915, in Decatur, Ill., the son of Corbett E. Davis and Winifred B. Kalips Davis.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1935-37. He married the love of his life Lily Eilene White Davis Oct. 10, 1953. They were married for 53 years.
In his lifetime, he had several careers, including motel operator in Nevada, architectural design and over the road truck driver.
He was a member of the NRA and several gun clubs, including youth education; participated in 4-H and had been a beekeeper at one time. He enjoyed taking classes at DePauw University and especially enjoyed art. Paul loved reading before his eyesight failed and has always been a dog lover.
Survivors include his children Donald Davis (Shirley), Florida, Mark Davis (Rita), Greencastle, Gary Davis (Diana), Clay County, Pauletta Miller, Florida, Cathy Wallace (Mike), Poland, 26 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, brother Joe Dan Davis (Sue), Texas, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eilene Davis on Jan. 30, 1997, his son Gene Davis in 1997, brothers Billy Davis and Chuck Davis, and sister Helen Davis.
Services will take place Monday, at 1 p.m., at French Funeral Home, with Father Dom Chukwudi officiating. Burial will follow at Clinton Falls Cemetery, near Greencastle, with military honors.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.
