LEWIS -- Preliminary results of a fire investigation at a southern Clay County residence are in.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, members of the Lewis Township, Clay City Volunteer and Jasonville fire departments were dispatched to an engulfed structure fire at a residence located at 4976 West County Road 1150 South.
Although firefighters were able to get control of the fire quickly, they stayed on the scene until after 11 p.m.
Because it had been unoccupied for at least a year, Lewis Fire Chief Bryan Husband requested the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Division of Fire and Building Safety to send a fire marshal to the scene to help determine the cause the fire.
"Preliminary results have determined the fire was set," Husband told The Brazil Times, but added he was waiting for a full report from the Fire Marshal's Office to discuss further details.
