Clay County man taken to hospital following accident

Thursday, March 26, 2009

The Clay County Sheriff's Department is investigating an accident that sent a Clay County man to the hospital Thursday.

Shortly after 7 a.m., Thursday, members of the sheriff's department, Clay County Search and Rescue, Dick Johnson Township Volunteer Fire Department and TransCare Ambulance were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on County Road 500 West (Clay/Vigo county line), just north of CR 1350 N.

AirEvac was initially dispatched, but later disregarded when officials arrived on the scene to check on the condition of the unidentified driver.

Suffering from back and chest pains, the driver was transported to Terre Haute Union Hospital for treatment.

CCSD Deputy Josh Krause told The Brazil Times the driver reported he was coming up on a T in the road, but was distracted by his dog inside the truck and drove into a ditch. The pickup truck sustained heavy damage to the front end.

With the driver allegedly admitting to authorities they were drinking and an open container discovered inside the vehicle, Krause confirmed the accident remains under investigation.

I think "they" is an identifier for the driver, but it sure looks funny in print. Makes you wonder what the BAC of the dog was?? Nice to come back from spring break and find a little humor on the website for a change.

If "they" was meant to be the driver, that is improper usage. It should be "he or she" if it is unknown. In this case, the driver was identified as "he" in the paragraph before.

I wonder if he did have a passenger? I mean other than the drunk dog?
