She was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Paducah, Ky., to Lillian (Beyer) and L.D. "John" Vannerson.
She grew up in McCracken County and was salutatorian of her graduating class of 1944 Heath High School.
She attended Murray State University and earned a B.A. in Business Administration in 1947.
She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and a member of several clubs, many of which she held an office.
Elenora received her degree in only three years.
After graduation from college, Mrs. McCain taught school at Moweaqua Community High School, Moweaqua, Ill., before being called back to Kentucky to be a deputy sheriff for her father, then Sheriff of McCracken County.
She married Owen McCain Nov. 15, 1952, and the couple moved to Corydon, Ind., soon after their marriage when Owen accepted a position as County Youth Extension Agent.
Another move took the couple to Evansville, where they completed their family.
In 1967, they moved to Brazil and quickly became active members in their community as well as worshiping together with their Christian family at Trinity Lutheran Church in Terre Haute.
Elenora was active in many organizations throughout her life. She is a retired real estate agent and broker, as well as past president of the Clay County Board of Realtors. She and Owen supported their community by working the election polls and Owen served as a City Council member.
She was a 50-year member of Extension Homemakers, a 4-H Club Leader, PTA member and past Treasurer of the Brazil Friends of the Library. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing bridge and cooking.
Elenora is survived by her children Joyce Pickart and husband Tim, Comstock Park, Mich., Karen Vanderbosch, Fort Wayne, Shirley Lance and husband Max, Bloomington, Ind., and Charles McCain and wife Theresa, Brazil, brother Robert Vannerson, Gilbertsville, Ky., grandchildren Jonathan, Mark and Sarah Pickart, Joseph, Carol, Ann, Scott and Mark Vanderbosch, Erin Lance, Chelsea and Dylan McCain, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Elenora was preceded in death by son John Owen in 1979, husband Owen McCain in 2001, sister Dorothy Cox and brother Duke Vannerson.
She was loved by all of her family and friends and was blessed to have Eve Butler as her loving and devoted friend. She will be sadly missed by those left behind but we take comfort in knowing she is now in the care of the Lord. She will be remembered for her enduring sense of caring and friendships with the many lives she touched.
There will be visitation at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, Friday, April 3, from 6-9 p.m. Services will take place at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 2701 Broadway St., Paducah, Ky., Saturday, April 4, with visitation from 2:30-4 p.m.
The service will begin at 4 p.m. (Central Time).
Burial will take place at Maplelawn Cemetery immediately after the service. Interim minister John Rogers will officiate.
