Course conditions were a tad soggy at Forest Park Golf Course as the Riddell National Bank Northview Invitational was contested on Saturday afternoon.

Following cold, rainy conditions that fell over the area on Thursday and Friday, Saturday's tourney was played under sunny, though cool temperatures.

Though the course was waterlogged in some spots, a number of golfers went pretty low in the scoring column led by Edgewood's Harrison Carmichael.

The Mustang golfer scored a 33 on the front nine to lead his team's assault on the course with a team tally of just 141. On the back nine, Carmichael stayed consistent enough to post a 34 and close out his round, which was just two strokes off the invitational record.

Carmichael wasn't the only Mustang to have a good round, he was joined by Josiah Ashba's 71 and a 72 from Mitch Oard. Kyle Pace's 79 wrapped up a team score of 289, which was just one stroke off the record held by Terre Haute South.

"Edgewood just played unbelievable," Northview coach Scott Buell said. "I've told the team before that Edgewood is going to be the team that we have to compete with in the conference. We're going to see Terre Haute South a few times too and they'll be in our sectional."

The Braves were missing a couple of projected varsity starters, but were still able to score well enough to claim the runner-up team spot from the Knights via a fifth players' score.

South got a 70 from Zach Hosking and a 72 from Thomas Goss to push the team to a 303, the same score as Northview.

The Knights were paced by a 73 from senior Kade Baker and a 76 from Ryan Turner. Drew Snyder and Daniel Eaglin each claimed a 77 followed by an 86 by sophomore Josh Hoskins.

The Braves' got an 82 from both Cory Gertz and Brock Welch, which enabled South to take the second spot.

After the tourney, Buell was pleased with his team's performance if just a bit disappointed.

"Overall I was very pleased," Buell said. "We had four scores in the 70's, which tells you that your playing well, but our goal was to win."

Northview didn't have the services of No. 2 golfer, Austin Akers, who was participating in the IBCA Top-60 Seniors Workout for basketball players.

"We weren't at full strength, but we played without Austin's score in practice the other day and shot a 296," Buell said. "We've got a lot of depth and it's the first tournament so maybe we had some guys that were nervous."

The depth of the Northview program was illustrated by the 'B' team, which placed eighth and got rounds of 79 from Jarrod Short and an 80 from Byron Felchlia. Brad Smith added an 81 followed by an 85 from Jacob Musgrave and an 89 from Mason Short.

The Clay City Eels have just two of their regulars back from last season and both were in action on Saturday.

Zach Boggs led the squad with an 82 while Braxton Griffith carded a 93 for the Eels. Austin Sinders shot a 92 followed by a 99 from Nick Johnson and a 106 from Darius Farmer.

Linton senior Jordan Bradbury carded a round of 70 to finish in third-place behind Edgewood's Josiah Ashba while the Braves' Hosking matched the 70. South Vermillion sophomore, Brandon Bekkering, who qualified for the regional last season as a freshman, shot a 72 along with the Braves' Goss and Edgewood's Mitch Oard.

The Knights are back in action on April 15 when they host Terre Haute South at Forest Park.
