Hazel was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Knightsville, as the daughter of Richard H. and Ruby Thorne Fout. She graduated from Brazil High School. She married Raymond Cole Sept. 12, 1936. He was killed in a military train crash in 1944. She married Arthur T. VanNess Febr. 16, 1957. Arthur died Jan. 19, 1977. She married Bennie Miller Dec. 12, 1978, and he has preceded Hazel in death.
Hazel had worked at Quaker Maid, Terre Haute Ordinance Depot and shortly at the Blue Bonnett restaurant. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Brazil and Rebecca Lodge. She had also participated in the Kitchen Band and had delivered Meals On Wheels for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands and three infant grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Reva Webster and husband Bill, Brazil, Pamela Denise Henkel, Indianapolis, and Raelene Cole, Dover, Fla., three sons Larry Ray Cole and wife Norma, Brazil, John "Jack" H. Cole and wife Connie, Ft. Wayne, and Timothy A. VanNess and wife Fleta, Brazil, grandchildren Bradley Webster (Lisa), Staunton, Thom Webster (Lori), Brazil, Kathryn Boor (Matt), Brazil, Joyce Looman (Mark), Farmington, Minn., Rob Bandy, Indianapolis, Jennifer Miner (Erik), John R. Cole (Brenda), Ft. Wayne, Suzie Cole, Ft. Wayne, Adrian Clark (Chris), Brazil, Crystal Webster (Bob), Brazil, and Audra Wells (Marvin), Brazil, Janette Tallman, and Doyne Gene Tallman, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, with Pastor Richard Pippin officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society of Cloverleaf Healthcare.
