TRI KAPPA ASSOCIATE
The Beta Chapter of the Brazil Associates of Tri Kappa met Monday evening, April 6, 2009 at the First Methodist Church. The First Methodist Church's Sarah Circle prepared a delicious supper of Roast Pork, cheese potatoes, cornbread salad, mixed salad, lemon cake, and pineapple cake. Drinks of water, ice tea and coffee were also served.
Dr. Kirk Freeman was the guest speaker for the evening. He spoke on what we can do to help our own mental health. He said that we need to have a PASSION to help ourselves. P is for Perfect. Research on brain activities show that we need mirror neurons that mimmic those around us, preferably positive Attitudes. He reminded us that we are in charge of our own attitudes.
He read a poem entitled "Attitude." The first S stands for Smile. He reminded us that we need to smile and be happy, it will spread around us. The second S is for Share your ideas. This will help everyone.
I represents Innovative and Inspired. This keeps our brain working. O reminds us to be observant. We need to take the time to enjoy our surroundings.
Lastly, with the N, we are reminded to Never Give Up!! Just do it and be a risk taker to keep our Mental Health positive and growing. He finished reading another poem entitled "Risk It".
President Susie Freeman opened the meeting. The opening verse was said and the song sung. Marsha Wyndham took roll call with all in attendance answering Kappa. Following roll call, Marsha read the minutes from the March Meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Sandy Henderson reported that she had sent cards to Rosemary Campbell and the Grey Family. The group was reminded to let Sandy know of any illnesses or deaths so that she can send cards as needed.
The scrapbook committee was presented with newspaper articles and the recent letters from Eastside School.
Kim Stearley gave the treasurer's report which was approved by the group. After receipts of $70, we distributed $124. We currently have a balance of $325.20 There were no bills to pay. There was no correspondence to read.
Susie Freeman, Kim Stearley, Sandy Henderson and Marsha Wyndham are planning on attending the State Convention, April 17-19 at the Marriott East in Indianapolis. they are only attending the Saturday function.
There was no new business.
Thanks were given to this month's committee of Julie Marietta, Veda Bussing, Shirley Witt and Jacque Reberger.
The closing verse was recited and the meeting was adjourned. The Silent Auction gifts were won by Jane Mercer and Vicki Switzer.
This month the gifts were pots of yellow tulips.
The May program will be presented by Vanita Moore. The May 4 Committee will be: Kathy Witham, Vicki Switzer, Dorothy Snell and Julie Houston.
There were 22 members present at the April meeting.
