Marshal concerned with town speeders

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

The residents of Staunton should be wary of their speed.

During the Monday night meeting of the Staunton Town Council, Town Marshal Chuck Jones reported that with summer break coming up, he is concerned with speeding.

"Next month is May, so the schools will be letting out for summer break and kids will be out playing," he said. "I just don't want anything to happen to anyone."

Jones also reported that the number of dog complaints has gone down and the Humane Shelter has been taking care of the strays.

The Staunton Water Treatment Plant Operator Shirley Jolly gave a positive report to the council.

"Everything is working good," she said. "The chlorine is up and running, and I am looking into the possibility of buying a power washer which is on sale at Menards."

The board agreed with Jones that a power washer was needed and to go ahead with the purchase.

The council meets regularly on the second Monday of each month. Its next regularly scheduled is set for 7 p.m., May 11.

I have to agree about the speeding through Staunton, especially in the area between the school & Hwy 40. I can't count how many times I've had people go flying around me on that road. If a child were to run out into the road, I don't think there would be anyway they could stop in time.
