Reality Store helps students to 'LEAP into the Future'

Thursday, April 16, 2009

Clay Business Women's Club, in partnership with Terre Haute Savings Bank, is proud to present the 17th-Annual Reality Store at North Clay Middle School, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday, April 27.

Eighth-graders at Clay City and North Clay Middle Schools will acquire information, which will assist them in making wise choices for their futures.

Reality Store, trademarked by BPW/Indiana, traces its Brazil roots to 1992.

At the time, many of us reached adulthood without knowing what it would really cost to support ourselves and our families in the lifestyles we wanted ... or even knowing that we would be called upon to provide that financial support.

Because of this lack of knowledge, the best choices were not always made regarding such things as educational opportunities, plans on when to start a family or choice of occupation.

For these reasons, the need is there help today's young people make better decisions.

"LEAP Into The Future" will give students a taste of what life will be like as adults. They will encounter booths, such as Bank, Housing, Food, Child Care, Medical Insurance, Entertainment, Month's End, etc.

They will Learn how to budget, Evaluate a variety of information, and make Appropriate Plans for their futures. It is a learning experience which will hopefully assist students in planning better for their futures.

Many community citizens and leaders volunteer to make this year's Reality Store a valuable experience for each student who attends.

In addition, each student will have the opportunity for evaluation at the end of the event.
