Humane Society pet vaccination clinic scheduled

Thursday, April 16, 2009

The time has come again when pet owners can ensure the health of their four-legged friends for the year.

The Clay County Humane Society will once again be hosting its Pet Vaccination Clinic in the Forest Park Pavilion. The clinic will take place from 1-4 p.m., on two consecutive Saturdays, May 9 and 16.

"The price for the shots have not been determined, but I don't believe it will be much more than the $8 per shot it was last year," Humane Shelter Manager Rick Moore told The Brazil Times. "During the clinic, pet owners will have the opportunity to pre-register for our spay/neuter clinic as well."

Shots available during the clinic will include:

* Puppy vaccine (five-way),

* Adult canine vaccine,

* Bortella vaccine,

* Feline vaccine (three-way),

* Feline Leukemia vaccine, and

* Rabies vaccine.

Moore said those who sign up for the spay/neuter clinic during the event will have a reduced rate because of their participation in the shot clinic.

"If they get the rabies shot during the clinic, there will be no need to have it done during the spaying or neutering," he said. "So the cost of the spay/neuter clinic would be $48 for cats and $53 for dogs."

Moore said owners are requested to drop their pet off at the Humane Shelter by 5 p.m., on Thursdays for the spay/neuter clinic, which is weekly, and they may pick them back up after 3 p.m., the next day (Friday).

Moore said additional services may be requested along with the spay/neuter at an additional cost.

"Owners may also request that their pet have a Heartworm test or be microchipped, which are at a cost of $25 a piece," Moore said.

He added the shelter continues to send animals to various rescue groups across the country, including New Hampshire and Connecticut.

The Clay County Humane Shelter will also conduct a Jonah Fish Fry Saturday, from 4-7 p.m., at the Kennedy Crossing Bingo Hall.

Hot dogs will also be served during the event, and the cost of the fish fry will be $8 for adults and $4 for children 12-under.
