Suspect in custody following alleged vehicle thefts

Although details are limited due to the ongoing investigation, officials at the Clay County Sheriff's Department confirmed Thursday one suspect is in custody and more are being sought for their alleged involvement in recent vehicle thefts.

Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton told The Brazil Times Justin Axsom, 22, Jasonville, is currently being held at the Clay County Justice Center on a $7,000 cash bond (with no 10 percent allowed) while investigators continue to look for other persons of interest who possibly have information regarding at least two stolen vehicles from Clay County.

One of the vehicles reported stolen from an undisclosed local residence April 16, was recently recovered in the southern part of Indiana by law enforcement.

Jail officials confirmed Thursday that Axsom remains incarcerated on two class D felony charges, one for auto theft/receiving auto parts and one for habitual traffic violator, and one misdemeanor trespass charge while awaiting further court proceedings on the matter.

The Clay County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing Axsom's current charge information while the investigation continues.
