Eels and Knights hit links for weekend tourneys

The Terre Haute South Black team claimed the championship of the Braves' Invitational on Saturday at Rea Park Golf Course.

Thomas Goss led the team with a 75 and three Braves shot under 80 to pace South's score of 314. Effingham St. Anthony carded a 317 for second-place ahead of Greencastle (325) and Northview's 327.

Fifteen teams took to the course in windy, warm conditions, which played a role in play during the tourney.

Ben Davis' Kyle Dickerson earned medalist honors with a round of 74 followed by South Vermillion's Brandon Bekkering, who shot a 75 for second-place. Adam Schwarz and Thomas Goss of South's Black team also shot a 75.

The Knights were led by Drew Snyder's 80 followed by a pair of 82's from Kade Baker and Ryan Turner. Austin Akers and Daniel Eaglin each shot an 83.

Northview's golf team heads to Terre Haute North on Friday for a 5 p.m. match.

Tri-River Conference Meet

LINTON -- The Clay City Eels finished second to the Linton Miners in the Tri-River Conference golf tourney held at the Phil Harris Course in Linton on Saturday.

The Eels got an 84 from Zach Boggs, which earned him all-conference honors in the meet.

The Miners won with a score of 328 followed by the Eels score of 381. Union took third ahead of North Central with Shakamak and Eminence fielding incomplete teams.

Braxton Griffith took second on the Eels' team with a 96 followed by a 98 from Kyler Rhodes, a 103 from Nick Johnson, a 104 from Austin Sinders and a 107 from Darius Farmer.

Linton's Jordan Bradbury earned medalist honors with a 77 followed by teammate Ben Boyd's 79 and Boggs. Chase Rhoten and Derrick Barker of Linton also earned First Team All-TRC honors.

The Eels travel to North Central this evening for a match at 4:30 p.m.
