The North Central Thunderbirds kept control of the Tri-River Conference on Monday evening by nipping Clay City 2-1.
The win bumps the ninth-ranked T-Birds to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the TRC while the 11th-ranked Eels fell to 1-1 in the conference and 7-5 overall.
Clay City scored its lone run in the fifth inning as Michaela Riggs reached on the Eels first hit of the game and came across on an RBI single by Tasha Collenbaugh.
North Central got on the board in its half of the fourth inning on a triple by Adara Crooks and a wild pitch by the Eels' Shelby Targett.
Targett was the hard luck loser in the game despite striking out 15 batters and walking just one. She allowed just five hits, but the Eels were able to knock out just three of their own against Ashli Scott, who improved to 4-0 in the circle.
The T-Birds scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Scott drilled a two-out double and her battery mate, Sammy Barbee, followed with another double for the game-winner.
