Mayor Ann Bradshaw confirmed to The Brazil Times Thursday evening a water leak was discovered in an 8-inch line near the intersection of Chestnut and Warren streets just after 6 p.m.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m., Brazil City Water Superintendent Jake Raubuch told The Times the water department was digging up the area to locate the line and residents near Chestnut, Warren and Sherman streets were without water services because they had shut off valves in the area.
"The rest of the city still has their water services," Raubuch said. "The pressure levels are looking good and we are hoping we don't have to put the city under a boil order."
As of press time, officials continued to work on repairing the leak, and no boil order had been issued.
An estimated timetable for services to be restored to the area was not provided.
