Recent heavy rains caused a portion of a local roadway near Center Point to be closed after a culvert was discovered washed out Friday.
Clay County Highway Garage Supervisor Pete Foster told The Brazil Times a portion of County Road 200 North, between CR 275 and 300 E, would be closed while the department waits for pipes to be delivered to fix the culvert in the area.
"This could be a lengthy closure," Foster said. "It could be three to four weeks before we get the parts."
Foster said motorists should avoid the area.
"We have concrete barriers up and road closed signs at the intersections," he said, adding that an estimate to fix the damage has not been determined yet.
