Meridian Elementary School is gearing up for its 50-year celebration, scheduled May 11-15.
Activities include classrooms decorating their doors to a special 50s theme, students creating drawings and birthday hats, students taking part in 50 physical activities and learning how to hula hoop, students learning songs and dances from the decade and having students write and/or draw their favorite memory of the school.
On May 11, students will learn the history of the school and on May 12, the 50th celebration will take place in the school gymnasium at 9 a.m. Cupcakes will be served.
On May 13, students in grades kindergarten-second will have an Evening with the Arts, beginning at 6 p.m., and on May 14, students in grades three-five will have the same event.
On May 15, students will take part in a 50s-style picnic.
A sock Hop has also been scheduled for May 14. Students are asked to come to school dressed up in 50s clothing, including poodle skirts or rolled up jeans and a T-shirt.
Students in grades kindergarten-first will participate in the sock hop from 12:30-1 p.m., while students in grades second-third will take part from 1-1:45 p.m. Students in grades fourth-fifth will take part from 1:45-2:30 p.m.
