Boil order still in effect

Monday, May 4, 2009

City employees took samples of water to state officials Monday and expect to receive word by Wednesday whether a boil order can be lifted.

Water service customers in Brazil, Carbon, Center Point, Harmony and Knightsville have been on a boil order since Thursday.

Brazil Water Superintendent Jake Raubuch told The Brazil Times city officials will take a second set of samples Tuesday.

A water leak in an 8-inch line near Chestnut and Warren streets was discovered the evening of April 29.

The leak, according to officials, was repaired sometime between 8-9 p.m., April 29. However, a second leak was detected shortly after and then repaired later in the evening.

After the leaks were repaired, city officials had to turn on fire hydrants in the city to get all the air out of the lines. Water pressure was back to normal at approximately 6 a.m., April 30.
