He was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Clay County, the son of Noah and Jessie Bolin Whitehead.
He worked for the City of Brazil.
He attended Trinity Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army from 1948-50. In 1978, he married Mildred Cochran Whitehead. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ernie Whitehead and sister Amy Wallen.
Survivors include his wife Mildred, son Rex Whitehead and wife Sarah, Brazil, step-sons Keith Schell, Diamond, and Michael Kidwell and wife Penny, step-daughters Ada McLin and husband Ron, and Carla Gorrell and husband Richard, both of Brazil, brother Chuck Whitehead, Terre Haute, sister Sharon Eldridge and husband Larry, Brazil, 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Pallbearers will include Dewey McLin, Charlie McLin, Austin Armstrong, Curt Modesitt, Timmy Modesitt, Mike Kidwell and Jerry King.
Graveside services will take place Thursday, at 1 p.m., at Harmony Cemetery, with Rev. Ernie Rush officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the cemetery.
