Ernest 'Newt' Ray Price, 89, Brazil, died May 3, 2009, at 10 a.m., at his residence.
He had been ill for the past three years.
He was born July 25, 1919, in southern Vigo County, the son of Herbert W. Price and Mae Ann Etchison Price.
He graduated from Blackhawk High School.
He was a machinist for Prox and Company and also for Twigg Industry.
He later enjoyed work as a farmer and he owned and operated Prices' Campground for more than 13 years. Following retirement, he moved to Brazil.
Ernie enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and dancing. He had been an active member of the Blackhawk Lion Club. He was also known to play Euchre with family into the wee hours of the morning. He also enjoyed traveling to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Winifred Knight Price, his second wife Josephine Frye Price, brothers Theodore Price and Bertrand Price, sisters Thelma Morris and Maxine Brown, stepsons Larry Frye and Bill Frye, and two grandchildren.
Survivors include stepson and daughter-in-law Mike and Melody Frye, Brazil, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and other extended family.
A memorial service will take place Friday, at 7 p.m., at French Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. At his request, cremation was chosen.
