John D. Byers, 68, Brazil, formerly of Gallipolis, Ohio, died May 4, 2009, at 9:05 a.m., at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.

He was born Oct. 23, 1940, in Linton, the son of Delbert Aldo Byers and Myrtle Grace Fury Byers. He graduated from high school in Gallipolis, Ohio, and later attended Columbus Business College. In 1988, he moved to Denver, Colo., to work for Parts, Inc. He was a sales manager for parts distributions for them until 1991, when he started Broomfield Auto Parts in Broomfield, Colo.

He retired in 1996. In July 2008, he and his wife Janet moved to Brazil to be close to family.

John and Janet were married on Sept. 1, 1967. As a young man, John enjoyed drag racing and continued to enjoy watching NASCAR and Indy car racing. He also enjoyed gardening, collecting model cars, hunting and fishing. He was a member of F&AM, Scottish Rite and the Shrine when they lived in Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Wayne Byers.

Survivors include his wife Janet Elaine Daniels Byers, Brazil, brothers John Robert Byers and wife Cindy, Brazil, Tom Byers and wife Linda, Briston, Va., two grandchildren Wystan Byers and Lilibeth Byers, and other extended family.

A memorial service will be held Friday, at 3 p.m., at French Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Alstott officiating. Cremation was chosen. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
