INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Retired Teachers Association (IRTA) will conduct its 44th Representative Assembly -- The IRTA's annual convention -- Wednesday, May 20, at Primo Banquet Hall South, Indianapolis.
Lily Liu, AARP's Brand Communication's Manager, will be the keynote speaker.
Primo Banquet Hall South is located at 2615 National Ave., Indianapolis, off the Keystone Avenue exit from Interstate-65.
During the annual convention, IRTA delegates from across the state will select a new Board of Directors, award eight $2,000 scholarships to future teachers and present committee reports such as volunteer service, public relations and legislative advocacy.
Registration for the event will be from 8:15-9:45 a.m., with a business meeting set for 9:45 a.m.
Lunch will follow at 12:15 p.m., and Liu will speak at 1:10 p.m.
The presentation of awards will take place at 1:35 p.m.
The meeting is scheduled to conclude at 2:15 p.m.
Indiana Retired Teachers Association is the state's largest and oldest organization, representing retired educators.
Founded in 1950, IRTA has more than 25,500 members served by local chapters in counties throughout Indiana.
IRTA members donated more than one million hours of community volunteer service in 2008 for the fifth consecutive year.
