He was born Aug. 18, 1940, in Poland, the son of Lewis Rubeck and Thelma Henson Rubeck.
He graduated from Cloverdale High School.
On Oct. 20, 1964, he married Sandra Parks Rubeck.
He worked as a young man for Omar Company and in March of 1966, he began working for Wonder Bread in Terre Haute.
He worked as a route man in the Greencastle and Cloverdale area for Wonder Bread until retirement in 1996. He was proud to have received "Top Salesman" award many times.
In 1997, he bought the Double N Diner and managed it until he suffered from a stroke in 1998. They later sold the diner and he concentrated his time on taking care of the lawn and garden, feeding the squirrels and best of all, being "Poppy."
Gary had memberships in the Brazil Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union No. 144.
His father and his stepfather, Richard Oehler, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Sandy Rubeck, mother Thelma Oehler, daughters Tammy Elder and Misty Rubeck Hoffman and husband Jimmy, grandchildren Austin Bullerdick, Crystal Mathers and Rochelle Bullerdick, mother-in-law Juanita Boyce, great-grandchildren Dillion Hamilton, Katie Rose Hamilton, Ashtin Bullerdick, Laila Martin and Maddy Martin, and sister Veda Bussing and husband David, all of Brazil.
At his request, Gary will have no services and cremation will take place.
