LINTON -- The Linton-Stockton girls track team made it an even dozen for consecutive Tri-River Conference track and field titles as they captured the TRC Friday night with a score of 150, Shakamak was runner-up, 12 points behind. Clay City was third with 91 points, while North Central and Eminence rounded out the girls' field with 78 and 25 points respectively.

In the boys' race, Clay City captured its fourth straight TRC crown as they raced past Linton-Stockton 166-155. Shakamak was third with 93 points, followed by 60 points for North Central and Eminence registered six points.

Most impressive by the Eels fourth consecutive crown was they did it with just 12 athletes in uniform.

"I have won it with just 13 boys on the team before, but never with just 12 like tonight," Eels coach Keith Jones said. "The kids did a great job tonight.

"We felt like we had a chance entering the meet, but it was just a matter of maintaining our seeds."

Jones said a 1-2 finish in the high hurdles really sealed the win.

"When we went first and second in the high hurdles you could tell it really lifted the kids spirits up then."

Linton-Stockton placed first and second in the pole vault to creep closer to the lead, but the Eels did not have any participants.

One of the more outstanding individual performances of the night in the boys' race came from Linton-Stockton's Caleb Wainman. He registered three blue ribbons as he swept the 100, 200 and 400-meter races.

"It took a lot of effort, it was hard," Wainman admitted. "I definitely do not want to race in the 400 again."

It was just the second time running the event, which really impressed his head coach.

"Caleb had just an amazing night," Miners head coach Aaron Lynn said. "He posted wonderful times, especially in the 400. He came from far behind for the win. He just had a great all-around night."

Shakamak's Drew Gambill also turned in an eye-popping night. The junior crossed the finish line first in the 3,200, 1,600 and set a new school and TRC record in the 800 as well as being on the winning 1,600 relay team.

Gambill's 800 time was one minute and 57.6 seconds, which broke Tim Gambill's record of 1:59, set 37 years ago.

Clay City only had a total of four first-place finishes on the night, but placed in every event.

"We didn't have many first place finishes tonight, but we placed in every event and that is what it takes," Jones said.

The Eels got victories from Devon Hall in the discus with a heave of 134-3 and a win by Logan Higgins in the high jump at 5-8. On the track, the 400 relay team took the title and Orry Heffner was the 110 hurdle champion.

For the Clay City girls, Lindsey Higgins scored a win the high jump at 5-0 and Asie Jeffers claimed the discus title and Carmela Roeschlein tied for the 1,600 meter win.

Shelby Higginbottom of North Central turned in the most spectacular night for the girls as she claimed the top spot in the long jump, 800, 200 and 400.

Shakamak's Casey Fougerousse was the top runner in the 3,200.

Linton-Stockton, Shakamak and Clay City will all meet up on the track once again at Roy Williams Field next Friday for the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference meet.
