Area resident recognized for efforts

Sunday, May 10, 2009

Quality customer services "keyed" an award winning performance for a local Kroger employee recently.

Heather Kelsheimer, a Drug GM Department Manager at the Kroger store, located at 100 Forest Park Plaza in Brazil, was recently given a 2008 Customer Service Award Winner by the stores Central Division in Indianapolis. She was one of 155 winners spread across five states. She was selected by Brazil Store Manager Ron Horall.

Kelsheimer, who has served in her position for the past three years, is in charge of supplying the store with various non-food items. She is also the Safety Team Leader, meaning she's in charge of assuring a safe environment for the stores customers and employees.

The award was given based on customer compliments. When employees are openly complimented to management, they are given pins, or "keys" which indicate that they are "the key to success." Kelsheimer was quick to praise her stores clientele for making the award possible.

"The customer is No. 1," Kelsheimer said. "They are our top priority. They are what our industry is based around."

The ceremony took place at the Marriott Hotel in Indianapolis. Kelsheimer and fellow award winners were treated to a dinner and a posh awards ceremony. Kroger President Bob Moeder was vocal in his praise for Kelsheimer and her fellow award recipients.

"We deliberately seek ways to honor those associates whose exceptional customer service and leadership inspire others and demonstrate the critical importance of serving customers well," Moeder said in a statement. "I am very proud of Heather, as are the more than 15,000 members of the Kroger Central Division family in this operating division."

Kelsheimer was very proud of being honored by the Kroger higher ups and did not hesitate to express the pleasure she felt in having her work recognized.

"It meant a lot to me to be recognized," Kelsheimer said. "It was very exciting to go. They went all out for (the winners). It was nice that all our hard work was noticed."
