Summer pleads not guilty

INDIANAPOLIS -- Musician and former Brazil resident Henry Lee Summer pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a felony county of methamphetamine possession and other charges.

Summer, whose real name is Henry Swartz, did not talk to reporters after the hearing in Marion County.

Summer was arrested May 6 after he allegedly threw drugs from his vehicle during a traffic stop. Officers who tried to stop him for not using a turn signal say they had to use pepper spray to subdue the singer.

The 53-year-old Summer had two top 20 hits in the 1980s with "I Wish I Had A Girl (Who Walked Like That), and "Hey Baby."

Since his initial success, he has continued to tour.

In 2007, Summer pled guilty to driving while intoxicated as part of a negotiated plea agreement for his alleged involvement in a 2006 incident.

On Sept. 15, 2006, witnesses at Country Woods Estates reported Summer hit four parked cars and police confirmed they used a Taser gun to subdue him during the arrest. He was initially charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident.

He faces one count each of meth possession and obstruction of justice in addition to two counts of resisting law enforcement.

Well, I am sure he will end up on Celebrity Rehab with Doctor Drew or the Surreal Life with Vanilla Ice and Ron Jeremy. This is sad to see, but it is not uncommon.

I will pray for him and his family locally. I know they are a good Christian family. My heart is with them.

I knew and ran with Hank a little bit, even drank with him, but the way he looks now is just plain sad.

Kids, beware.

Just another Clay County doper. Maybe next time he'll o.d. and save the taxpayers some money.

I think he would be on the "One Hit Wonders" list or "Where are they now" list before the Celebrity Rehab... I think you have to be a celebrity first for that show!

It is sad that the few success stories that as a Brazilian we can tell, turns out like this.

Good thing we have Orval!

Thanks for showing the real Hank as he is today. This is not a world of make believe and in order to teach our kids we should show the the results of drugs. He is a picture of the real thing; and what a waste of talent. Maybe he can get some help, but of course he has to want it first.

Drugs will get you no matter if u r rich or poor, if you have a name or a no name. One minute you are on top with a song now you are in jail. I don't think DRUGS care if you come from a good family.

I'm sorry for anyone whom battles with Drugs, a few win but most don't.

It is sad to see someone get addicted, but he's a grown man & he knew what they would do to him. I do hope he gets the much needed help he obviously needs. This guy looks like he's been rode hard & put away wet!

There are no words for this picture...however, there is a titter of laughter. Sorry, but how many more pictures of snapped out crank heads do we need to see for people to realize how gross this drug is?

Wow, this is the miracle grow old quick drug! This guy now looks about 70 on a good day. I wouldn't even want to think about what this drug has done to his teeth and gums...ick factor 50.

I think this picture should be put on a billboard in town. Maybe that would deter at least a few from trying this nasty thing even that one time.

So very sad.

He is sad to look at, but have pity on his family.

Yes, he has toured but looking at his appearance, it

must have been in dives. I pray he does not let all of America think that this was how he was brought up and Clay County agrees with his life

style.

After seeing all those people that have been on drugs and what they look like --seems to me that if you dont get it yet you never will

I hope Hank can get the help he needs. It is an amazingly sad story. I know others close to him who are experiencing his kind of hurt. Hopefully, nobody will get hurt further because of his actions. His parents are good people. Hank is in my thoughts and prayers.

I doubt Henry Lee will make it on Celebrity Rehab. He's not all that well-known outside of Indiana.

Also, he is still performing. He was at a bowling alley in Brownsburg last weekend.

Whenever Wavestock was in Waveland, Ind., maybe 5 or 6 years ago, he performed there and didn't look anywhere near this bad. It truly is very sad.

I'm disappointed in you Lee, I figured you'd make some comment like maybe he got the meth off of all the meth heads in Brazil. I feel bad for him I hope he gets straight.

Sorry to disappoint you APE. Now I won't be able to sleep tonight. There is meth is Clay County? Wow, didn't know that.

I have always loved Henry's music. It has to be extremely difficult to be a performer in today's world, there is enough pressure just being a private citizen, let alone being under a microscope all the time.

By the time most people reach Henry's age, there are very few who have not tried drugs at least once. His arrest and the resulting humiliating publicity is sad not only for for him, but also for his career, for his family, but most of all for his children.

We all stumble and make many mistakes in our lives. Let's pray for him to be able to overcome any addiction and just love him for the good music and memories he's given all of us. Whom of us has not done something stupid because we were suffering in some way? Criticizing him will not help anyone.

I fully believe that when a person is acting the most unlovable is when they need love the most, so let's support him, not tear him down further. It never hurts anyone to have a little love and compassion, because we all need to receive it at some point in our lives.

I wish Henry Lee all the best and to clean up and come back with a renewed and even more successful musical career again soon.

I was glad to see that the Judge gave Henry Lee

permission to undergo drug rehabilitation while he awaits trial on Sept. 8.

I hope he will be able to get and stay clean from drugs and that will be taken into consideration at his trial.

The poor man needs to be with his family and he needs family, friends, and fans to support him and encourage him, pray for him so hopefully he can again lead a healthy, happy and productive life, so long as he does not revert to drug use.

God Bless you, Henry Lee, and good luck in cleaning up your life, good luck to your family for a new and better future as well.
