The Northview boys' golf team has been playing well of late, which is good news as the postseason tournament gets closer by the day.

The wet spring will give the Knights plenty of practice heading into the sectional, which is scheduled for June 8.

On Saturday, the Knights squared off at Geneva Hills in one of the first pressure packed tests heading into the final few weeks of the season.

Edgewood came into the tourney as a prohibitive favorite after besting the Knights at the Northview Invite earlier in the season.

The Mustangs held true to form in the 18-hole format, placing four players on the All-Conference Team, which includes the top-10 scores, on the way to gaining the championship by six strokes.

Edgewood scored a 308 to edge out the Knights' 314 with South Vermillion claiming third with a 330. Brown County (351), Sullivan (359), Owen Valley (401) and West Vigo (408) rounded out the field.

As if keeping the Mustangs from registering their third consecutive Western Indiana Conference golf championship wasn't going to be hard enough, the Knights got the news on Friday that they would have to do so without one of its top golfers.

Austin Akers injured his back in an Advanced P.E. class and was forced from the rotation on Saturday and coach Scott Buell brought Jacob Musgrave in to join the five-man team.

Akers could reportedly miss about a week according to coach Scott Buell.

Kade Baker added another award to his growing list, claiming low medalist honors with a round of 74.

"Kade played an outstanding round (Saturday)," commented Buell. "Ryan Turner and Drew Snyder also played very well for us."

Turner shot a 76 with Snyder claiming a 78 to also earn All-Conference honors for the Knights.

Musgrave did his part in the tourney, carding an 86 in his first WIC Tourney experience with Daniel Eaglin adding an 88.

The Mustangs were led by a 75 from Josiah Ashba and a 78 from Harrison Carmichael.

The Knights begin a busy week with a trip to Hulman Links to face Terre Haute North this evening at 5 p.m. Northview will host Clay City on Tuesday in a make-up match and then to Sullivan on Thursday.
