Church, school set up cleanup day

Monday, May 18, 2009

First Christian Church Kids Hope USA ministry, in partnership with Forest Park Elementary, will conduct a cleanup day at the school from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday.

During the day, children and the volunteers will plant flowers, do some weeding, remove trash and cleanup around the school grounds.

"Everyone really enjoys working together to make this a successful day as well as helping our partnering school to spruce up a little," Kids Hope USA Director Susie Treash said. "All the children and the staff take so much pride and ownership in their school."

Treash said this is the second time the organization has teamed up with Forest Park to conduct cleanup day.

"We did this back in May 2007 and just decided that it was time again for a spruce up day out at the school," she said. "This is something that we can do to help show our commitment to not only the school, but our great little community.

"We have built such a great relationship with the children and the staff that this was a wonderful opportunity to continue building on that special bond."

Kids Hope USA is a national, church-based mentoring program based in New Zeeland, Mich., that equips a church to build a caring relationship with its neighborhood public elementary school by providing faithful mentors and behind-the-scenes prayer partner.
