4-H Pageant deadline approaching

With the entry deadline quickly approaching, young females across the county interested in competing for the 2009 Clay County Fair should be preparing.

The entry deadline for applications is Wednesday, June 17. A meet the contestant tea event will take place at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, June 20, at the Clay County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.

Workshops -- including one for interviewing skills, modeling, hair and makeup -- have also been scheduled.

A pageant decorating party has been scheduled for 6 p.m., Thursday, July 9, with the pageant rehearsal set for 6 p.m., Friday, July 10.

The pageant itself will take place Saturday, July 11. Interviews are scheduled to take place at 1 p.m., with the pageant starting at 7 p.m.

Judging for the queen contest included an interview (50 points -- ability to converse 20, poise 15, personality 15).

Queen contestants will also be judged in professional wear (20 points -- overall impression 10, posture and poise 10), and formal wear (30 points -- stage presence 15, overall impression 15).

Queen candidates must be at least 16-years-old and cannot have their 21st birthday as of Aug. 21, 2009.

Judging criteria for princess includes the interview, casual wear and formal wear.

Princess candidates must be 12- to 15-years-old.

Applications may be picked up at the Clay County Extension Office, located at the Clay County Fairgrounds. There is an entry fee of $25.

Those interested in competing should send the application, entry form and a photo to the Clay County 4-H Council, Attn: Dianna Knox, PO Box 702, Brazil, Ind., 47834. Applications may also be dropped off at the Extension Office.
