It will be a showdown between the Knights and Patriots in the Northview girls tennis sectional final. Northview defeated Greencastle 5-0 Thursday to advance to the final against Owen Valley who defeated Linton-Stockton.

The Knights took little time to seize control of the matches, going up early in all but one. "The girls played well tonight," Knights' head coach Emily Goff said. "We still have a ways to go for tomorrow night. Owen Valley is definitely a good team and they're going to be ready for us. In the regular season, we only beat them 3-2, but the girls are excited. Hopefully we'll be focused tomorrow. Her squad was definitely ready Thursday evening.

At No. 1 singles, Allie Melega capitalized on her advantage and dispatched Katie Collins 6-1 and 6-3. Her counterpart Ali Rentschler duplicated Melega's feat, downing Greencastle's Kate Babington 6-1 and 6-3 in No. 2 singles action. Rounding out singles action for Northview was Hannah Pond who fended off Tiger Cub Katie Farris 6-1 and 6-4.

In No. 1 doubles action, Bonnie Froderman and Lauren Reberger defeated Greencastle's Hilary Schroeder and Lauren Kenney 6-2 and 6-4. The biggest cause for concern for the Knights came in the No. 2 doubles.

After going down 6-2 in the first game, Allison Stearley and Kaci Kehrt stormed back to take care of Bridget Tucker and Emalie McClain 7-5 in the second game and 6-2 in the third to win the match.

Looking to capture its fifth straight sectional title, Northview will tangle with Owen Valley at 5 p.m. tonight. Goff knows it will be a tough match, but if her squad takes care of the little things, they should be just fine.

"The girls just have to be ready and focused and ready to hit the ball. They need to get their serves in and have a really good game. We'll be ready," she said.

Northview will take on Owen Valley tonight at 5 p.m. for the Northview girls' sectional title.
