Born Nov. 21, 1945 in Carbon, he was the son of Arthur Lawson and Katie Lawson.
James served in the Navy. He worked as Quality Control Manager for CBS. He was a member of the Elk's Lodge and former member of the American Legion. His hobbies included playing poker, music, sports and especially basketball.
Survivors include his companion of more than 25 years, Connie Maffioli, Terre Haute; a son John Robert Lawson, Brazil; three step-children, Bethany Phyne, Indianapolis, Michael Woodall and wife Lori, Indianapolis, and Frank Maffioli, Terre Haute; a step-grandson Eli Maffioli, Terre Haute; a sister-in-law Betty Lawson, Terre Haute; nephew Chuck Lawson, Arkansas; and former wife Diane Lawson, Brazil.
His parents, step-father Ted Moore, two sisters Valenda Heithecker and Ladonna Bishop, and brother Larry Lawson preceded him.
Services are Saturday from noon-5 p.m., at the family home. Donations may be made to the charity of choice in his name.
