Last week, I attempted to entertain you with the perils of gardening for a first-timer.
Only days later, I received a letter from local resident Marion "Sarge" Eveland.
In the letter, "Sarge" asked a couple of questions.
I wanted to take time to give him a few answers to those questions.
The garden is approximately 12-by-15 in size.
Yes, I did go over the area with the tiller more than once. I actually tilled each row three times, hoping that would help.
Like you, I didn't rake, although I think I probably should have. Some things are coming up in the garden as we speak, but I can't tell if we're talking about weeds yet or not.
We planted tomatoes, peppers (hot and bell), pumpkins, sweet corn, radishes, lima beans and carrots. We didn't have enough room to plant cucumbers or onions (I'll get to the onions in a moment).
The puppy will most definitely stay out of the garden until things have ran the course of growing (at least, we hope so).
Anyway, back to the onions.
Apparently, when "Sarge" dropped off the letter of questions, he also dropped off something special for my fiance and I to plant in the garden.
And believe me, those onions will get planted.
"Sarge," I can't begin to express our gratitude for the onions.
What a pleasant surprise to come back from lunch and to see a bag of ready-to-plant onions.
We had purchased seeds for onions, but didn't get them in when we planted.
Now, we have a reason to get those onions going.
I can remember the look on my fiance's face when I brought them home. She was quite pleased.
Again, thank you.
By the way, when they come up, I'll bring you some.
No strings attached.
