He was born July 6, 1925, to John Claude and Alma Josephine (Britton) Harper.
Mr. Harper attended Harmony Elementary and later graduated from Van Buren High School.
Upon graduation, he joined the United States Navy, serving during World War II and the Korean War.
Jack retired after 34 years from General Motors Allisons of Indianapolis, where he worked as a crib tool attendant.
Memberships included the American Legion Post 1127, Knightsville Masonic Lodge, El Shaddai Emmaus Community and the Harmony United Methodist Church.
On July 18, 1946, he married Betty Jean Portemont, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children Tony Harper, Jack and Vonna Harper, Rita and Greg Jones, all of Brazil, and Marc Harper, Monrovia, grandchildren Charity, Angela, Flint, Eric Harper, Erica Manion, Shaye Patterson and Nikki Dawson, great-grandchildren Cainan, Brevan, Jace Harper, Brent Manion and Harper Dawson, sister Joan Lindsay, brother-in-law Bill Portemont and wife Betty Jayne, sisters-in-law Marilyn Portemont and Mary LeMay, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins and close friend Cyrleen Myers.
Per his request, graveside services will be at Cottage Hill Cemetery, Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bob Kumpf officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harmony United Methodist Church.
