Arts Illiana arts council sets up awards program

TERRE HAUTE -- Arts Illiana, Arts Council for the Wabash Valley recently announced the 2009 BRAVO! The Arts! Awards, presented by Wabash Valley Capital will take place June 18.

This marks the 15th celebration of BRAVO! Each year, individuals, organizations and businesses are recognized for their outstanding contribution to the arts throughout the Wabash Valley. Award categories include Arts Educator, Professional Artist, Corporate/Foundation Support of the Arts, Advocacy, Volunteer Service, Youth Arts Achievement and Lifetime Achievement.

The awards, sponsored by Wabash Valley Capital, will be presented following a reception in the Indiana State University Center for Performing and Fine Arts. The reception will begin at 6 p.m., and the awards presentation will start at 7 p.m.

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the ISU Student Steel Drum Ensemble under the direction of ISU Music faculty member Jimmy Finnie. ISU Art Gallery Director Melissa Vandenberg has also made arrangements for the BFA Senior Exhibition to be available for viewing.

The event is free to the public.

Among the award winners will be Indiana State District 43 Representative Clyde Kersey, who will receive the Advocacy Bravo award.
