A high school conference Clay City has been a part of since its inception will no longer exist following the 2009-10 academic school year.
According to a press release, the Tri-River Conference (TRC) will disband following next year. The conference Board of Directors voted to discontinue to conference at its spring conference Wednesday.
Currently, the TRC includes Clay City, Eminence, Linton, North Central (Farmersburg), Shakamak and Union (Dugger).
According to the release, a major reason for the disbanding of the conference is other than North Central and Eminence, the remaining schools are all part of the SouthWestern Indiana Athletic Conference (SWIAC).
The TRC has existed since the early 1970s. Initially, Clay City, Montezuma, Rosedale, Shakamak, Terre Haute State High, Staunton and Van Buren composed the league.
However, consolidation took Montezuma and Rosedale -- now Riverton Parke -- along with Staunton and Van Buren -- Now Northview. In addition, Terre Haute State High School closed at the end of the 1977-78 school year.
Currently, Clay City, Eastern (Greene), Bloomfield, White River Valley, Linton, Shakamak, North Daviess and Union (Dugger) make up the SWIAC.
According to reports, North Central (Farmersburg) has been asked to join the conference at the conclusion of the 2009-10 school year.
