Soil & Water Farm Tour set for August

Thursday, June 18, 2009
The Clay County Soil & Water Conservation District has scheduled their 2009 Farm Tour for Aug. 3-4, 2009.

We will be leaving on the morning of Monday, Aug. 3, 2009 and returning the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Some of the highlights of the trip will be:

* A tour of TMMK -- Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky. This is the largest Toyota plant outside of Japan. Opened in 1988, this facility employs more than 7,000 team members and produces about 500,000 vehicles and engines! (That's about 2,000 vehicles every day!)

Toyota is the environmental leader in the automotive industry.

This goes beyond just building environmentally friendly vehicles. This facility demonstrates how a manufacturing plant can coexist with nature and have a positive effect on the environment.

* Hotel accommodations will be at the Grand Victoria Casino and Resort in Rising Sun, Indiana. Dinner and Breakfast buffets are included.

* The Creation Museum -- this state-of-the-art 60,000 sq foot museum presents a unique and unparalleled experience, a walk through time portraying significant, life-altering events from the past, illuminating the effects of history on our present and future world.

* Jungle Jim's International Market -- from a simple roadside stand stocked with local farmer's produce to a 300,000 square-feet food extravaganza and tourist destination, offering over 150,000 different items from over 75 countries around the globe.

Any adult interested in participating in this tour should contact the Clay County SWCD office at 955 W. Craig Ave., or by calling 812-448-1108 Ext 3. Further detailed information will follow. RSVP as soon as possible.

The tour is available on a first-come basis and is limited to 47 people.
