Alberta Louise (Stearley) Woodburn passed from this life Friday, June 19, to be with her Lord. "Her children will rise up and call her blessed," Prov. 31:28.
She was born March 3, 1923, on a farm near Brazil, to William and Leatha (Brown) Stearley.
Alberta graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1941. She married her beloved husband of 67 years and childhood sweetheart Harold J. Woodburn on Jan. 31, 1942, and has resided in Indianapolis for 63 years.
Alberta is survived by her husband and children Wanda (Woodburn) Pieper (Jerry), John Woodburn (Linda) and Terry Woodburn (Sharon), grandchildren Jeff Pieper (Andrea), Jody Cook (Curt), Matt Pieper (Sandra), Jason Woodburn, Sara Stayte (Brad), Scott Woodburn (Kelli), and Jamie Simpson (Matthew), 10 great-grandchildren, nephew Leonard Price (Sally), nieces Sidney Price, Indianapolis, and Sharon Schlegel, sister-in-law Mary (Woodburn) Harden, nephews Harrison Harden (Bobbie), nieces Rose Marie Weber (Jim), and Mary Alice Schroer, and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters Lucille Stearley and Ruth Schlegel (Bob), niece and nephews Bill and Donna Schlegel, brother-in-law Emmert Woodburn, sister-in-law Francis Price, nephew Raymond Price, and niece Martha Nay.
Alberta has been a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church for more than 60 years and sang in the Joy Singers Choir.
She and Harold ushered at Market Square Arena for 11 years after retirement. Alberta's greatest joy was her family and caring for them. She was a living example of a Christian wife and mother. She loved gardening, traveling and serving others.
She will be missed greatly by all who knew her and loved her for her smile and positive attitude during many years of illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 3456 E. State Road 42, Center Point, Ind., 47840.
Visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m., Monday, June 22, with a memorial service at 7 p.m., at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St., Indianapolis. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, June 23, at 11:30 a.m., with calling from 9:30-11:30 a.m., at St. John's United Church of Christ, 3456 E. SR 42, Center Point, east of SR 59, south at the Brazil exit from Interstate-70.
