Times Staff Report

The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:


The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1127, 303 S. Depot St., Brazil, will have Bingo every Wednesday night.

Early birds starts at 6:30 p.m., with regular Bingo beginning at 7 p.m.

The Bingo Hall is a smoke-free facility and there is no carry in of food or drink allowed.

Lost items

A number of items were found in the pavilion area at Forest Park during the Area Day Senior Citizens Picnic May 22.

Those who may have lost any items in that area are encouraged to contact the Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled at 812-238-1561 or toll-free at 1-800-489-1561.

Fish Fry!

The Center Point Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a Fish Fry Saturday.

The event is the fire department's main revenue for the year to keep operations going.

The meal will consist of fried fish, baked beans, cole slaw, green beans or applesauce, ice tea or coffee.

Cost is $7.50 for adults and $4.50 for children.

There will be homemade pies and cakes available as well. A dunking booth and ring toss will also be set up.

The event is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. There will be two serving lines set up.

A drive through line will be set up at the rear of the firehouse.

In addition, a heavyweight horse pull is scheduled and will start at 8 p.m.

Star program

The Allen Memorial Planetarium will present the Summer Seasonal Star program today, Saturday and Sunday.

There is no charge for the program but donations will be accepted.

Today's program will be at 6:30 p.m., while the Saturday program will be at 2 and 4 p.m. The Sunday program will be at 2 p.m.

The 30-minute program will introduce the constellations and other wonders of the sky for the summer season.

The planetarium is located at Terre Haute South High School.

Journey to Oz!

The area theater troupe Stage Hams, will present "The Journey Through Oz," at the Scottish Rite, located at the corner of Ohio and 8th Streets, Terre Haute, today, at 7 p.m., and again Saturday, at 3 p.m.

"The Journey Through Oz," is an original script based on "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," by Frank Baum, using both classical music and songs from the Broadway musical "The Wizard of Oz."

Dinner time!

The First Christian Church Honduras Mission Team will conduct a pulled pork take-out dinner Sunday.

Cost is $6, which will include a pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, a bag of chips, a pickle and a dessert, all packaged and ready to go.

Tickets are on sale at the church or from team members. They will also be available the day of purchase.

Kick off event

The 2009 United Way of the Wabash Valley pilot campaign will officially start at the Pilot Campaign Kickoff Wednesday, July 1, at Eli Lilly and Company Clinton Laboratories.

Twenty-six pilot companies will be announced at the event and will be available for comments.

The 2009 campaign goal will be announced at the event and contributions raised during the annual campaign will provide funding for 86 programs of United Way's partner agencies.

Table event

TJ Rescue and Sanctuary Corp., 13445 N. CR 400 W., Brazil, will conduct tabling events at Walmart in July.

The events will take place July 4 and July 11.

Animals will be on hand for adoption. In addition, the organization will have raffle items available as well as literature and special handmade assorted sizes of ball jars with dog and cat treats.

The organization will also be collecting cat food and cat litter both days.
