Brazil resident dies as result of accident

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Although the accident is still under investigation, officials at the Brazil Police Department announced Tuesday morning a Brazil man died from injuries sustained during a three-vehicle accident near the entrance of the Walmart parking lot Monday evening.

Two drivers were taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital. William Shields, 79, Brazil, died at the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, Madonna McHargue, 74, was treated for minor injuries and later released, while the third driver did not report injuries to officials.

Further information will not be made available until the Vigo County Sheriff's Department completes and files the accident reconstruction report.

Why Vigo County?

That's a good question. Why would it be Vigo County??

Well they were out at the site very late last night. They may have needed help from other agencies to reconstruct the accident. They left the two vehicles there for quite awhile after the accident.

I saw the after effects of this wreck. It was horrid!

My heart goes out to all families involved.

We too saw this horrible accident aftermath. Its a wonder how anybody lived through this. Seems as if folks are not paying attention to the stop lights like they should or this would never have happened. It a sad shame that this had to happen and a life was lost.

Vigo Co. has a accident reconstructionist along with the Indiana State Police but Clay/Brazil city does not have one to my knowledge....

How sad. My heart goes out to all involved. I wonder if william shields was related to the young shields boy that was killed out by great dane by a car when he was walking across the median a few years ago. 40 seems to be getting more and more dangerous every year.

taysha - according to the 05 obit, they weren't immediately family.

He will be missed by his family for sure. I know his grandson, very heartbroken.

That intersection at Wal-Mart has a lot of people driving through the turning lane and heading straight through when unfamiliar with the area. I've seen it happen several times. Don't know how it could be marked better, but people make mistakes.

The Shields boy was not walking, he was riding a bike in the pitch dark with his friend, and they were jacking off on the side ofthe road, I almost hit him too.

Why would you say that about a young boy who lost his life? If it was your child you would think other wise. Kids are everywhere so maybe you should be more alert about what's going on around you.

Yes, I beg to differ, it was 9pm at night and it was the time of the covered bridge. I stopped to see if I could help the boy. I had just passed the boy and his friend before I TURNED OFF TO A SIDE STREET IN Harmony, I'm not being mean , but those kids were jacking around on the high-way!! and as I recall his mother had no phone so nobody could contact her. Your right, I wouldn't like it if my child got hit, but my kids are in BED at 9pm or else I know where they are. I feel bad for the guy who hit him because I will NEVER forget the look in those kids in the backseats eyes.
