He was born in Clay County, March 14, 1937, the son of Raymond and Mary (Williams) Rogers.
They preceded him in death as well as six brothers, three sisters and two brothers-in-law.
He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in Company B, 1st Battalion, 1st Basic Training Regiment, 4th Platoon at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., (April 3, 1956-Aug. 6, 1956), and the 599th Armored Field Artillery Battery, HQ, Company, 3rd Armored Cav., at Bremerhaven, Germany (Oct. 18, 1956-Feb. 19, 1958), as a light vehicle and truck driver.
He was released from active duty to the Army Reserves based in Terre Haute, and McCoy, Wis., March 5, 1958, where he was a vehicle and engineer equipment mechanic.
He was honorably discharged March 31, 1962.
John was a carpenter for the Penn Central and Conrail Railroads, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Brazil American Legion Post 2.
John is survived by sons John (Gwen) Rogers, Lizton, Ind., and David Rogers, Terre Haute, daughter Cathie Rogers, Florida, sisters Goldie Malone, Danville, Ill., and Maxine McKee, Bloomington, Calif., brothers and sisters-in-law Tom and Margie Rogers, Harold and Wanda Rogers, and Ann Rogers, all of Brazil, grandchildren Dale, Desiree, Jerod and Bruce, great-grandchildren Mary, Kaden, Sydney, Arabella and Tristan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation at the wishes of the deceased. Graveside services will take place at 2 p.m. CST, Monday, July 13, 2009, at Danville National Cemetery, 1900 E. Main St., Danville, Ill.
