Buckingham won the 2009 Brazil Rotary Fourth of July Celebration grand prize this past weekend and received the $10,000 Wednesday at the organization's weekly meeting.
"This will come in handy," Buckingham said.
Recently, Buckingham broke one of his toes in five places. However, he found out he would not require surgery.
But he said his wife had major surgery only a couple of days ago.
Buckingham -- who was not at Forest Park when his name was drawn -- said he found out of his earnings just minutes after via phone call from incoming Brazil Rotary President Susan Thomas.
"It was quite a surprise," Buckingham said, adding his family and he were watching television when the phone rang. "She surprised me."
Buckingham works at Great Dane and also owns and operates Buck's House of Color.
His children Justin and Jessica accompanied him to the Wednesday event.
In addition, Thomas was officially given the title of incoming President as outgoing President Rob Dispennett said the Fourth of July Celebration was again a success.
"I believe this year's celebration went really, really well," Dispennett said.
