CYL 14-year-olds claim District 5 championship

The Clay Youth League 14's claimed a district championship this week with three victories in Bloomington. BLOOMINGTON -- In District 5 play in Bloomington this last weekend, the CYL 14's beat Bloomington, Valle Field, and Riley to earn the title of District Champions.

The squad started tourney play Saturday winning a game against Bloomington.

Next up for the Clay Youth League 14-year-olds was Valle Field on Sunday and the CYL came away with a 14-6 victory. The win boosted the CYL into the title game against perennial nemesis, Riley, on Monday evening.

In the title game, the CYL used a pair of big offensive innings to pull away to a 13-5 win and a trip to Newburgh for the Babe Ruth Southwest Regional State Tourney.

Outstanding pitchers for CYL were Steven Watts and Brock Smith.

The offense was led by Daniel Reberger and Brock Wheeler.

Next action for the team is Saturday in their first game of Regional State.
