James Harold "Hack" Evans, 81, Brazil, died at 5:42 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2009, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

He was born July 28, 1927, in Crawford County, Illinois, as the son of Jess and Elsie Akers Evans.

Following graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning the rank of Seaman First Class.

He married Lena Kathryn Webster July 28, 1948, in Robinson, Ill. She has preceded him in death.

He was employed at Case in Robinson, Ill., and several years at Girton Implement as a mechanic until his retirement.

He had been a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lena, brother Raymond Evans, and sisters Mary Hill, Vera Isabell and Vivian McCrory.

He is survived by daughter Sue Kitch, Brazil, granddaughters Trina Zentko and Tawnya Whittington and husband Aaron, Brazil, and great-grandchildren Devan Zentko, Katie Whittington and Emily Whittington.

Visitation will be 1:30-2 p.m., Tuesday, at Calcutta Cemetery, with graveside funeral services to be conducted at 2 p.m., with Pastor Warren Whittington officiating.
