BATESVILLE -- The Clay Youth League 11-year-old baseball team claimed a state championship over the weekend.
The CYL squad bombarded their opponent with an 8-2 opening win against Batesville and followed with a 16-1 win to claim the title over the Southeastern Indiana champion.
In the series finale, Brayden White blasted a grandslam and Seth Barrett added a three-run shot in an 11-run first inning that put the game out of reach. The CYL scored 10 runs before Batesville was able to record the second out of the inning.
The win propels the CYL into the Ohio Valley Regional that begins this weekend with the 11's taking on the host squad, Hammond, IN on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
The regional is a 10-team, double-elimination contest that includes three teams from Indiana as well as two Illinois squads and two from Kentucky along with single teams from Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan.
