The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:


The Brazil Times is continuing A Salute to Soldiers.

We are currently looking for more veterans to honor for their past service.

To honor any soldiers, stop by our office Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Include a photograph and a brief description of service.

Good cause

Area residents are currently collecting new or used squirt guns to send to soldiers stationed in Iraq due to extreme temperatures.

The squirt guns will be for soldiers in the 138th Quartermaster, stationed at the Brazil Armory.

A box will be set up at the YMCA of Clay County beginning Friday and concluding Saturday, July 25.

The squirt guns will be sent to the soldiers July 27.

Library project

For the past several years, the Brazil Public Library has sponsored, "Project School Supply."

New basic school supplies will be collected and then equally divided among the seven elementary schools, North Clay Middle School, Northview High School, the Cumberland Academy and Clay City Jr./Sr. High School.

The supplies will be delivered to the schools before the new school year begins and distributed to needy students at the discretion of principals and teachers.

The library is asking anyone interested to consider donating so it can equip needy students with new school supplies.

The Brazil Lion's Club will have a golf scramble Friday, at Forest Park Golf Course.

Cost is $40 per person or $160 per team. Cost includes lunch, which begins at noon.

A putting contest will take place at 12:30 p.m., and a shotgun start is set for 1 p.m.

All proceeds will go to the Brazil Lion's Club, which supports the hearing and vision impaired, along with other community projects.

St. Vincent Clay Hospital will offer a student athletic workshop Thursday and Friday, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The two-day athletic training workshop is for students entering grades 9-12.

Ice Cream

The Ashboro United Methodist Church will conducts its 32nd Ice Cream Social Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m.

There will be plenty of sandwiches, pies and cakes along with entertainment.

More Bingo

Exceptional Living Center of Brazil -- formerly Holly Hill Nursing Center -- is inviting local community senior citizens to its facility for Bingo on Tuesdays.

A Bingo event will take place at the location, 501 S. Murphy Ave., Brazil, at 2:15 p.m., Tuesday, July 28.

Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

Prizes will also be awarded.

Educational service

"Last Will and Testimony" will take place at the Vigo County Public Library, 1 Liberty Square, Terre Haute, from 9 a.m.-noon, Tuesday, July 28.

The event will take place in classrooms A and C.

Refreshments will be provided and participants will receive a certificate following the two-day event.

Tractor Show!

The annual Antique Tractor show will take place at Goshorn Park, Clay City, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, with a free ham and bean dinner at 11:30 a.m.

Tractor games will take place all afternoon and prizes will be given away hourly.

'Colts City'

The Indianapolis Colts will host "Colts City" again this year at its annual training camp at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

The Colts will officially kick off training camp at Rose-Hulman, Monday, Aug. 3, with team practices from 8:30-10:30 a.m., and 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Camp will conclude Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Meeting set

The Center Point Town Council will conduct its August council meeting Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 6:30 p.m., at the town hall.

All interested patrons are encouraged to attend.


The Maple Ave. United Methodist Church, 1203 Maple Ave., Terre Haute, will present "Evita" July 31, Aug. 1, 7, 8 and 9.

Shows on July 31, and Aug. 1, 7 and 8, will be presented as a Dinner Theatre, at 6:30 p.m. The Aug. 9 show will be a matinee, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The dinner theatre shows cost $25 while the matinee costs $15.
