Emerson Sutton, 89, Venice, Fla., passed away July 25, 2009, at Manor Care, in Venice.
He was born in Clay County, Ind., Oct. 21, 1919, the son of Clifford and Mary Olive (Turner) Sutton. Mr. Sutton served his country in the United States Air Force. After returning from the military, he began working as a farmer for 17 years and later worked as a Coal Miner for Amax Coal Mine retiring in 1984. He married Waneta Pell March 8, 1947. Mr. Sutton was a member of the VFW 6606 and American Legion 0225, United Mine Workers Association, and the Eighth Street United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings and a granddaughter Christy Andis.
Survivors include his wife Waneta, children Marie Andis and husband John, Carmel, Ind., John Sutton and wife Kim, Little Rock, Ark., and Cheryl Brune and husband Milton of Guymon, Okla., eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren as well as many extended family members.
Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City, Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Steve Rundel officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
