TERRE HAUTE -- The Terre Haute Community Band will present "Heroes and Legends," Saturday, Aug. 1, at 8 p.m., at Fairbanks Park.
A natural for this concert is "Summon the Heroes," by John Williams, for the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic games in 1996.
Williams is also well represented at this concert as the band will perform the "John Williams Trilogy," a medley including parts of "Welcome to Jurassic Park," "Theme from Schindler's List," and "Raider's March."
The band will also perform "Lord of the Rings," by Johan de Meij and arranged by Paul Lavender. "The Impossible Dream," by Mitchell Leigh from the Broadway musical "Man from La Mancha," will also be performed.
The concert will also feature "March of the Belgian Paratroopers," composed by Pierre Leemans, and "Riders for the Flag," by John Philip Sousa.
All concerts are free and take place at Fairbanks Park. The Conductor of the band is Yvonne Newlin, the Performing Arts Coordinator at Lincoln Trail Community College, Robinson, Ill.
The Summer Concert Series is sponsored by the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department.
The band receives grants from the City of Terre Haute and Arts Illiana and WFIU.
