Ruben Albert "Al" Winn, 59, Knightsville, died Wednesday morning at his residence following a long illness.

He was born Jan. 25, 1950, in Clay County, as the son of Abram and Betty Selby Winn. He graduated from Brazil High School with the Class of 1969.

Al married Jayne Loudermilk March 30, 1969. He worked as chief tech for Cable Brazil from 1972-1974, technical operations mgr. for Time Warner Cable in Terre Haute from 1974-2003 and Southwest District Construction Mgr. for Insight Communications in Evansville beginning in 2004. He was affectionately known by many in the community as the "Father of Cable TV." He was an amateur radio operator. He had also served his community as the Town Marshall of Knightsville, a Clay County Sheriff's Reserve Deputy and a Brazil City Police Reserve Officer.

Al was a member of many organizations including, Society of Cable Television Engineers, Sons of the Legion Post 346, Moose Lodge of Brazil, Eagles Lodge of Brazil and F&AM Masonic Lodge 409. He enjoyed music and played guitar in many bands including Northwest Express, Ambush and Country Nomads. He had been elected to the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents, half-sisters Alice Bowman and Patty Moore.

He is survived by his wife, Jayne Loudermilk Winn, daughter Dawn Levy and husband Sean, grandson Dustin Levy, brother-in-law Mark Loudermilk and wife Patti, half-brothers Larry Winn and wife Shirley and James Winn and wife Louraine, many nieces, nephews and good friends. He will be greatly missed and can never be replaced to those who loved him.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, at Moore Funeral Home, with Pastor Ernie Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home with Masonic Memorial Services at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clay Co. Humane Society, 8280 N. CR 125 W., Brazil, IN 47834.
