Don Hubert McCollister, 74, Harmony, died at noon Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.

He was born Aug. 11, 1934, in Knightsville, as the son of Ora Fred and Iva Opal Hadley McCollister.

He graduated from Brazil High School. He married Shirley Ann Gulifor April 4, 1979, at the Harmony Community Church.

He was employed for more than 19 years as a corrections officer at the Indiana State Farm, but he was best known as the Jewel Tea representative, where he worked for more than 15 years.

He was a charter member of the Van Buren Township Volunteer Fire Department and had served for many years on the Harmony Town Council (Town Board) until his death.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing with his constant and loyal companion, his dog, Boots Intimidator McCollister. He will be remembered by his numerous friends for his sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ora and Wilber McCollister, his first wife Rita Mosteller McCollister, nephew Dr. Terry McCollister, and daughter Sharmie, and grandson Jackie Joe McCollister Jr.

He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years Shirley Ann, son Jackie Joe McCollister (Dee), daughter Dawn E. Duell (Kyle), grandchildren Dustin McCollister (Amanda), Lacey Don McCollister, J.J. McCollister and special friend John Ray Miller, Casey Sheldon Duell, Nicky Scott McCollister and Chelsea Leigh Duell. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Levi, Hunter and Brandon McCollister, special grandson Specialist Melvin Douglas "Doug" O'Dell, brother-in-law and best friend Jimmy Joe Gullifor, sisters-in-law Nancy L. Smith and Betty Lou Fisher, first cousin Mary Lou and Don Miller, nephew Darryl McCollister, great-nephew Keith McCollister, and many nieces, nephews and extended family and countless friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Moore Funeral Home, with Pastor Wm. Price officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
