Charitable quilters

Friday, July 31, 2009

The Clay County Christian Quilters recently raffled off a handmade Sampler Quilt to raise money for numerous local charities, including Ronald McDonald House, Toys For Tots, Clay County Head Start, Clay County Food Pantry and a food basket drive during the holidays. Pictured (front, from left) are Virginia Elliott, Bernice Walton, Barbara Stanfield, (back) Paula Fulk, Marylou Thompson and Marsha Nicoson. Not pictured: Linda Lumsdon, Mayme Cox, Maxine Beaman, Opal Schopmeyer and Helen Osborne. The winner, Beverly Thomas, was later notified of her good fortune. To participate in the more than 50-year-old sewing group, those interested are urged to stop by the Harmony United Methodist Church from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., each Wednesday with a box lunch and nimble fingers.
