The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:

Salute

The Brazil Times is continuing A Salute to Soldiers.

We are currently looking for more veterans to honor for their past service.

To honor any soldiers, stop by our office Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Include a photograph and a brief description of service.

Making donations

Those who do not have access to the Internet may still make donations for former Brazil resident Matt Switzer's goal to run in the Chicago Marathon and raise funding for cancer research.

Checks must be made in the order of the "Lance Armstrong Foundation," and may be sent c/o John and Vicki Switzer, 2115 N. PR 50 E., Center Point, IN 47847.

Library project

For the past several years, the Brazil Public Library has sponsored, "Project School Supply."

New basic school supplies will be collected and then equally divided among the seven elementary schools, North Clay Middle School, Northview High School, the Cumberland Academy and Clay City Jr./Sr. High School.

The supplies will be delivered to the schools before the new school year begins and distributed to needy students at the discretion of principals and teachers.

The library is asking anyone interested to consider donating so it can equip needy students with new school supplies.

Food signups

Share Food signups will take place from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, at First Christian Church.

The distribution date is scheduled for 9-10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, also at First Christian Church.

Breakfast

The Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department will conduct its monthly breakfast from 7-11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8.

The menu will consist of biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, pancakes and sausage.

Freewill offerings will be accepted.

Fill-A-Bag!

Forest Park Elementary will conduct its second Fill-A-Bag Night Monday, Aug. 10, from 5-7 p.m., in the art room.

All students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to complete an emergency contact form and an enrollment card.

Registration Time!

Clay City Elementary School will register students Monday, Aug. 10, and Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., and 1-3 p.m.

CCES will also register students during an evening session Monday, Aug. 10, from 5-7 p.m.

Parents/legal guardians are urged to bring student's shot records and legal birth certificates to register.

Meeting

Forest Park Elementary will have a Kindergarten Parent Meeting Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 5-7 p.m., in the school cafeteria.

Parents and new kindergarteners will have an opportunity to meet teachers and visit classrooms.

Ice Cream Social

Carbon United Methodist Church will conduct its 52nd Ice Cream Social from 4:30-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14.

The menu consists of homemade ice cream, homemade barbecue sandwiches, homemade pimento cheese sandwiches, hot dogs and coney dogs, salads, cakes and pies, strawberry shortcake (with or without ice cream) and drinks.

The event will take place at the Carbon United Methodist Church, five miles north of Brazil on State Road 59 and one mile east in Carbon.

All are welcome to the event. Food items will be individually priced.

Fair!

Blue Moon Gifts, 10 W. National Ave., Brazil, will conduct a Spirit Fair Aug. 22.

Those interested in attending will have the opportunity to celebrate the coming autumn season. There will be discounted readings and specials throughout the day.
